Illinois football QB Luke Altmyer in rare company with Alabama’s Ty Simpson

Altmyer has played some very sound football so far this season to get a top 25 Illinois team to a 4-1 record, throwing for nearly 1,200 yards and 11 touchdowns in five games without throwing an interception. He is one of two quarterbacks in college football, along with Alabama signal caller Ty Simpson, to have thrown 125 or more pass attempts and 10 or more touchdowns without an interception, according to Jeremy Werner of 247 Sports. After the game, Bielema expressed his limitless confidence in Altmyer moving forward as his starting quarterback, via Joey Wagner of 247 Sports.

Altmyer Named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — Illinois quarterback Luke Altmyer was named the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week, the conference office announced Monday. Altmyer led Illinois to a 35-13 rout of Rutgers on Saturday with 323 yards of total offense and five total touchdowns. Altmyer threw for 235 yards and ran for 88 yards to lead the Illinois offense. His career-high five touchdowns — four passing and one rushing — made him the first Illini to account for five touchdowns in a single game since 2013. Altmyer's season-high 88 rushing yards came on only seven carries, as he ran for 12.6 yards per carry. Including a game-opening 99-yard touchdown drive, Altmyer led Illinois to touchdowns on five of its first six possessions to build a 35-6 third-quarter lead. The win was Illinois' sixth of the seasons, as the Illini became postseason eligible in back-to-back seasons for the first time since 2010-11.

Greg McElroy names SEC quarterback rising in Heisman race

Alabama’s latest win over Vanderbilt offered another look at the transformation happening in Tuscaloosa, and Ty Simpson is at the center of it. The Crimson Tide quarterback threw for 340 yards and two touchdowns on 23-of-30 passing in a 30–14 victory, his third game in four weeks completing better than 75 percent of his throws. During his Always College Football podcast, ESPN analyst Greg McElroy said the performance showed Simpson was “rapidly ascending into the top tier of college quarterbacks” and “rapidly ascending in the Heisman conversation.” Simpson’s command of the offense stood out against a Vanderbilt defense that forces opponents to earn every yard. The Crimson Tide built drives methodically, leaning on quick reads, balance, and timing rather than sheer explosiveness. The result was a game that never felt out of control, even after an early interception. Alabama adjusted, settled in, and pulled away behind a poised quarterback who never looked rattled.

Illinois Coach Bret Bielema Pays Luke Altmyer Powerful Compliment

If we've gotten nothing else out of the past two weeks of Illinois football than a couple of wins and a handful of spots up the ladder in the AP Top 25 college football poll, we have been a party to this: Peak Luke Altmyer. Altmyer, the Illini quarterback, hasn't just balled out these past two weeks. He has made a mockery of expectations and conventional football wisdom in general. In some ways, he has been doing it all season. Against USC in Week 5, Altmyer threw for, ran in and even had reception for a touchdown. Against Purdue on Saturday, he threw for a career-high 390 passing yards and chucked his 12th touchdown of 2025, during which he has yet to throw an interception.

Broncos QB Bo Nix topples Vic Fangio’s vaunted Eagles defense: ‘He’s a competitor’

PHILADELPHIA — The Broncos took one more step in proving they’ve got the right answer at quarterback. Call it another twist of the proverbial knife into Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio when Bo Nix stepped up on Sunday at Lincoln Financial Field to help deliver a 21-17 victory for the Broncos against their former head coach. Remember January 2022? The Broncos fired Fangio after three seasons when the team tried and failed, multiple times, to identify a franchise quarterback. Remember last week? Fangio compared Nix to Buccaneers QB Baker Mayfield and said the Broncos have “got their quarterback for the future.” “They looked long and hard for many years,” Fangio continued. “They got one.” Nix put a stamp on Fangio’s evaluation on Sunday with a Mayfield-esque performance in Philadelphia. The Broncos trailed 17-3 after three quarters. That’s when Nix took control. He went 9 of 10 passing for 126 yards in the fourth quarter with three consecutive scoring drives and 18 unanswered points. Denver led after an 11-yard touchdown strike to tight end Evan Engram and a successful 2-point conversion throw to wide receiver Troy Franklin. “He’s a competitor,” coach Sean Payton said of Nix. “There were a handful of plays in the first half that I know he’d want back. … But that all being said, man, you can feel his leadership when it matters. And then you can feel the confidence with his teammates when it matters. So, he played exceptional in the second half.”

Illinois QB Luke Altmyer Embraces Growth at Illinois While Keeping NFL Dreams in Sight

Luke Altmyer’s football journey has already taken him through the gauntlet of SEC competition, a transfer to the Big Ten, and the challenge of carving out his place at Illinois. Now, the junior quarterback is stepping into the season with confidence, discipline, and a vision that extends well beyond Champaign. “I approached my game in so many different ways,” Altmyer told Paul M. Banks of RG.com. “You know, being a better physical player within the quarterback position. (I) wanted to put my team in better situations, winning the turnover battles and (making) explosive plays, and things like that.” Those words reflect not only a player trying to master his position, but one who understands that winning at the college level requires efficiency as much as flash. For Altmyer, it’s about putting the Fighting Illini in position to succeed every Saturday.

Riley Leonard thrives without pressure in Colts' preseason finale

Riley Leonard knows what pressure feels like. He knows what it's like to have all eyes on you, to have to meet the expectation of being your absolute best every single day. There's no way he couldn't, really, after leading Notre Dame all the way to the College Football Playoff National Championship in January. Leonard effectively burst onto the college football scene during his year at Notre Dame; he played (and played well) at Duke for the first three years of his college career, but Leonard's success as a member of the Fighting Irish catapulted him into the spotlight. His leadership, faith and work ethic became the topics of football talk shows and website articles around the country as he led the Irish to a 14-2 overall record and the College Football Playoff, always more excited to talk about his teammates than himself. Eight months later, nothing has changed – except for the uniform.

Future Notre Dame QB Noah Grubbs Leads Epic Comeback Win

Grubbs is rated as a four-star prospect according the 247Sports composite rankings and checks in as the nation's 19th overall quarterback in the class. Grubbs reports 26 scholarship offers, many of which are from Big Ten and SEC programs. Arkansas, Auburn, Florida, Miami, Michigan, Nebraska, North Carolina, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Penn State, South Carolina, and Texas A&M are some of the bigger-name programs to have offered him. Grubbs and Lake Mary fell behind 29-7 to Norland in the first half, as almost nothing was going their way. That score stuck until just eight minutes remained in the game, and that's when Grubbs and Lake Mary came alive. His touchdown pass to Florida International commitment Barrett Schulz with 44 seconds to play got Lake Mary within one, and they ran for a two-point conversion to take the lead. Grubbs and Schulz connected for three scores in the game.

One throw told Kalen DeBoer everything he needed about Ty Simpson's growth

Ty Simpson has made major strides over the last couple of weeks, solidifying his spot as Alabama's starting QB. He's beginning to generate awards and NFL Draft buzz; he's played as well as any quarterback in the country in the Tide's last two games. A big part of Simpson's improvement has been increased confidence and more game reps. There's no substitute for experience. The best part is that you can see Simpson growing right before our very eyes. He's accepted the feedback his coaches have given him and run with it.

Riley Leonard And 4 More Outstanding Rookie Performances From Week 3 of the Preseason

Following a heartbreaking loss at the hands of the Ohio State Buckeyes in the CFP National Championship, the Indianapolis Colts selected former Notre Dame signal caller, Riley Leonard. Throughout camp, Leonard was tasked with a battle for the QB3 spot with second-year quarterback Jason Bean. Leonard made a compelling case in the final week of preseason, completing 15 of his 20 pass attempts for 189 yards and a touchdown, which came off a 58-yard score from Laquon Treadwell. He also flashed his highly-touted athleticism with a 14-yard rush during the Colts’ 83-yard touchdown drive. A strong Week 3 showing in preseason that featured three scoring drives secured the QB3 job for the rookie, behind starter Daniel Jones, and backup Anthony Richardson.

Clemson quarterback Christopher Vizzina explains his loyalty to Clemson in modern football

Quarterbacks don’t usually wait around anymore. In today’s college game, when playing time isn’t immediate, the transfer portal often becomes the next step. Now entering his third season at Clemson, the former top-100 recruit has remained behind Cade Klubnik, learning and developing rather than searching for a quicker opportunity elsewhere. For him, the idea of leaving has never been on the table. “This place is very special,” Vizzina said. “I love Clemson just because of Clemson.
